Description
When Brazil invaded Uruguay in 1864, no one could have foreseen that the greatest war in the entire history of South America would begin. Paraguay entered the conflict in defense of Uruguay, Argentina allied itself with Brazil and Uruguay itself, having been conquered, had to change sides. In this way the Triple Alliance was formed against Paraguay. Although the difference in size, population, and resources was immense, the Paraguayans fought with unexpected determination.
First they embarked on daring offensives, and then they were forced to fight huge battles defending their country, sustaining losses they could not replace. After seven years of exhausting fighting, the Paraguayan army fought its last battle at Cerro Corá, the only town left to be conquered. And the last scene of that desperate battle occurred when Paraguayan President Solano López committed suicide, cornered by Brazilian soldiers. The material and human losses were immense for all the contenders. Historians affirm that more than 90% of the Paraguayan male population died during that titanic war, and even the victorious countries were exhausted, to the point that Brazil has not been able to get out of debt since then,
Surprisingly, this war has never been depicted in a game of its own. It is time to repair this inexplicable oversight, not only so that wargame fans have the opportunity to recreate this conflict and explore different strategies, but also so that the general public can easily learn about such an important historical event. For this reason, the game The War of the Triple Alliance maintains two basic premises: historical depth and simplicity in the rules.
