Description
The Armenian Kingdom was established by Ashot I of Bagratuni in the early 880 after successfully earning independence from Arab Abbasid Caliphate rule. Greater Armenia was often in conflict between the Arab Aliphates and the Byzantine Empires, requiring the Kings of Armenia to carefully use fortifications and diplomacy to keep balance between the larger powers. Armenia is rich in iron, leading to some of the best armored troops in medieval Europe. The Armenian heavy cavalry, known as Ayuruzdi were said to be the strongest cavalry force of the time.
