What is a Rondel?
A rondel is a game mechanic where a circular or wheel-like chart is used to offer players a limited selection of actions they can take on their turn. Typically, a marker moves along the spaces of the rondel, and on a player's turn, they move their marker a few spaces forward and perform the action where they land.
Purpose of the Rondel
The purpose of the rondel is to:
- Introduce strategic planning: Players must anticipate future turns.
- Limit choices: Players can only pick actions ahead of their current position.
- Add constraints: The cost often increases for moving further on the rondel.
Games with Rondel Mechanics
Notable games that feature rondels include:
- Imperial: Players govern major powers and a rondel dictates the actions they can finance.
- Navigador: Players explore, colonize, and trade in the age of discovery, using a rondel to select actions.
